I usually chant the Medicine Buddha mantra under my breath while waiting for my ride. Around noon today, I was chanting in a park near the road when I noticed two dogs—one black and one yellow, sleeping on the grass about two meters away.
As I kept chanting, they both suddenly raised their heads and locked eyes with me. The black dog began to shiver, stood up, and limped quickly across the road. The yellow one followed right after him, though she wasn’t shaking.
It made me wonder: why was the black dog so afraid? Could he have seen a Dharma Protector or the Medicine Buddha standing behind me?
