A Productive Day and a Sign from the Medicine Buddha

Today was another productive day. I spent the morning deep-cleaning both my house and the inside of my car. I wiped down everything---the steering wheel, dashboard, gear shift, and seats. The floor mats were by far the worst. They were packed with sand, dirt, and tiny rocks. When I pulled them out, dust flew everywhere, and I was honestly shocked by how much sand and gravel had collected underneath.

Once everything was finally clean, I grabbed lunch and headed to the library to borrow a few books. After that, I stopped to fill up the gas tanks for both my car and my scooter. The last stop of the day, though, turned out to be the most meaningful one.

I went to the temple to see if I could get my Medicine Buddha Sutra back.

About six months ago, I decided to focus on the Amitabha Dharma door, so I left my Medicine Buddha Sutra at the temple as a gift for anyone who might need it. Recently, however, I began chanting the Medicine Buddha Mantra for my mom, who has been suffering from post-nasal drip. I committed to chanting it 108 times a day for her.

During this time, I’ve felt incredibly blissful and peaceful while chanting. That feeling made me wonder if it was a sign, gently guiding me back to the Medicine Buddha Dharma door. Still, I didn’t expect much when I arrived at the temple. After all, six months had passed.

To my surprise and gratitude, the sutra was still there. I couldn’t help but smile and silently thank the Medicine Buddha. In that moment, everything felt very clear.

I’ve finally made my decision. I’m going to dedicate myself to the Medicine Buddha practice for the rest of my life. I’m done wavering between the Amitabha and Medicine Buddha Dharma doors. After going back and forth for so long, my heart now feels steady, settled, and at peace.
