Recently, I read a book called Wild Courage by Jenny Wood, and there’s one story in it that’s really inspiring. It’s about how she met her husband.
She said that when she turned thirty, she was riding the subway home from work. While standing there, she noticed this really good-looking guy about twenty feet away, holding onto the pole in the middle of the train. He was totally her type---thick hair, a little five-o’clock shadow, and really beautiful eyes.
As the train kept moving, she started making up all kinds of stories in her head...who he was, where he was going, what his life might be like.
Then she made a deal with herself: if he got off at her stop, she’d say hi, no matter what. If not, she’d let it go.
Well… he didn’t get off at her stop.
At first, she thought, “Oh well, maybe that’s fate saying it’s not meant to be.”
But then she realized that she doesn’t really believe in fate. She believes in making her own luck.
So she pushed through the crowd, and squeezed out of the subway doors just as they were closing.
She caught up to him near the station exit, tapped him on the shoulder, took a deep breath, and said:
“You’re wearing gloves, so I can’t tell if you have a wedding ring. But if you’re not married, you were on my subway train, and I think you’re cute. Can I give you my business card?”
So… guess what happened?
I’ll tell you tomorrow.
Haha! just kidding.
He took the card, they stayed in touch, and that man eventually became her husband.
So yeah, the point is this: if you see someone who’s your type. Don’t hesitate. Take the chance. Go talk to them. Seize the moment.
Because who knows?
They might just turn out to be your destiny.
