Honesty is the best policy

I have a neighbor I always call Uncle Wang. Recently, he ran away because he owed a customer money.

Here’s what happened. A customer paid him to help with a periodic vehicle inspection. Uncle Wang took the money and did try to help, but the car failed the inspection. After that, he didn’t return the money. 

Instead, he disappeared and went into hiding.

The customer was extremely angry, but there was nothing he could do, because he couldn’t find Uncle Wang.

I really don’t get it. If you fail the inspection, just return the money to the customer, and everything would have been fine. Why choose to hide?

Honesty is the best policy, right?

I honestly don’t understand why he made this choice.
