A Neighborhood Stroll

It’s the second-to-last day of the nine-day New Year break. The weather is gorgeous, so my mom and I decided to go for a walk around the neighborhood. Since it’s the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, a ton of shops were starting to reopen. Most of them were setting up altars—like the traditional "three meats" and fruit—right in front of their stores. There was a lot of burning joss paper and firecrackers going off, too.

I know it’s tradition, but I gotta say, the firecrackers are so annoying. They totally wreck the air quality and are honestly so bad for your health. I don't get why people don't just use electronic firecrackers instead—they're so much better. Anyway, we also picked up some vegetarian steamed buns to have for breakfast over the next few days.
